ABOUT COLLEGE
Teaching and Learning got a far deeper meaning when the
Sinhgad Institutes was set up in Aug.1993. Prof. M.N.Navale, a great visionary
and dynamic leader, laid the foundation of a society that went on to win the
respect and admiration of students, parents, industrialists as well as other
institutes that too in a matter of just twelve years. The Society is rightly
imparting high standard of education at different institutes in the field of
Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Architecture, Computer Application,
Education, Arts, Science, Commerce and has acquired fame in a very short span.
Overview:
Sinhgad Academy of Engineering is a part of Sinhgad
Technical Education Society (STES). Sinhgad Academy of Engineering was
started. It conducts four-year degree courses in the fields of Mechanical
Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology and Electronics and
Telecommunication. Institute is affiliated to University of Pune.
Location:
Sinhgad
Academy of Engineering is located in a very remote area called Kondhwa Budruk
in extreme south-east Pune. It's accessible by PMT buses but the frequency is
really bad. Effectively, you are forced to travel by six seater tempos or your
own vehicle. A good option, therefore, would be to stay in the college hostel
itself (Rent is 45,000/- per year)
Infrastructure:
Sinhgad
Academy of Engineering's campus is huge and it's one of the best amongst
engineering colleges in Pune. It's admirable and the first thing that impresses
you is its massive library. It shares its campus with a number of other Sinhgad
institutes like Sinhgad Institute of Business Administration & Research
(SIBAR), Sinhgad College of Commerce, Sinhgad Junior College and the pharmacy
college as well. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled a feat which few other
colleges can boast about. Playground for cricket & football, a tennis court
are available for recreation.
Fees:
Rs.
90,850/ year
Faculty:
The
faculty for Information Technology and Computers is really good. A lot of
experienced professors teach here. However, there are always a few
‘incompetent’ ones, and the students say that a few professors aren’t very good
at their communication skills. But overall the situation is quite good.
Attendance:
Attendance
at Sinhgad Academy of Engineering (SAE) is strict enough to maintain
discipline. The attendance and punishment structure is something like this:
50-75%
- buy books for the library.
25-50%
- parents are called.
Below
25% - detained.
Students
complain that term-work gets affected with every bunked lecture and the taunts
that follow are furthermore irritating.
Crowd:
The
crowd is refreshingly above average, and far better than general engineering
standards. It's a healthy mix of a few localites and students from all parts of
the country. Astonishingly, you often see pretty girls hopping around in the
campus. Energy levels are high and students are very enthusiastic about
festivals, events, sports and various other extracurricular activities.
Hangouts:
Students
often hang out at SIBAR, the management part of the same institute, which has
an excellent canteen. Other hangouts are Vanavri, hill view, Fame Adlabs
(Fatimanagar), but these aren’t really nearby.
Canteen:
There
are 3 canteens in the whole campus. Mess food is just about edible, so students
prefer eating in the canteens, where food is decent and reasonably priced.
Students mostly prefer the SIBAR canteen.
Festivals:
Sinhgad
Academy of Engineering has its Cultural fest-Sinhgad Karandak sometime in
February. It also has two technical festivals called Technofest, and Innofest.
Placements:
The
Sinhgad legacy comes into play here. Good placements for Computers, E&TC
and Mechanical, with around 80-90% of the eligible students being placed. IT
recorded 100% placements among those eligible for the previous year. Accenture,
L&T, Cognizant, Iflex, Infosys take most of the students. The average
package is around 3 lac per annum.
